Licensed Water Operator Update-
November 04, 2024
From CaseyJohnson/ Licensed Water Operator--Just to help answer some questions on behalf of Mitchellville and Millstone PWD. I am the licensed operator for both systems. At Millstone, our new well that was put online earlier this year, does have trace amounts of arsenic in it. This is common with ground water systems. Being that this new well has higher levels versus the older wells, we received the results during our last set of IEPA samples. We have already taken measures to remove the arsenic at the water plant and we have ordered sample kits to perform check samples to show progress to the Illinois EPA.
Also, this issue is in no way associated with the issue that Vienna had. Millstone is a ground water (well) system and Vienna is a surface water system.
In regard to the information being distributed to the customers of Millstone, we met the IEPA public notice reporting timeframe guidelines. From the time we received the results from the IEPA lab, we then prepared the public notice and sent that notice out with the next available round of water bills. These dates fell within the time guidelines required by the IEPA. I am doing all I can to keep Mitchellville educated on anything that may concern the quality of the water they receive from Millstone. I assure you the water is safe to drink and use. The water also meets and exceeds all other IEPA requirements.
